Habitat

Espécie epipelágica e mesopelágica, de natação rápida, que efetua migrações sazonais transoceânicas. Os juvenis ocorrem em água quentes mas os adultos podem ser encontrados em águas frias.

Identifying features

  • Corpo arredondado e fusiforme;
  • Peitorais mais curtos que a cabeça, não atingindo a origem da segunda dorsal.
  • Bexiga-natatória presente.
  • Coloração: dorso azul-escuro, passando a cinzento nos flancos e a branco no ventre, e por vezes bandas prateadas transversais sobre os flancos.
  • Primeira barbatana dorsal amarela ou azulada, segunda avermelhada.
  • Barbatana anal e pínulas amareladas orladas de negro.
