Ecologia

Alimenta-se de pequenos crustáceos, peixes e moluscos.

Reproduz-se de dezembro a abril, com um pico em fevereiro.

Características identificativas

• Corpo alongado e ligeiramente comprimido;
• Duas barbatanas dorsais; uma fiada completa de escudetes ao longo da linha lateral com uma inflexão muito marcada ao nível dos espinhos anais;
• Linha lateral acessória terminando entre o 19º e 31º raios moles da segunda dorsal;
• Coloração cinzento esverdeado ou azulado no dorso, flancos e ventre prateados.
