Habitat

Espécie pelágica de atividade diurna e voraz. Alimenta-se de peixes, crustáceos e cefalópodes.

Características identificativas

  • Pode alcançar até 1m de comprimento.
  • Corpo comprido. Cabeça grande com uma crista óssea acentuada.
  • Duas barbatanas dorsais: primeira retrai-se com um sulco dorsal, com 8 raios curtos e duros; segunda com 1 disco e 25 raios macios.
  • Coloração verde-azulado escuro no dorso, e cor prateada nos flancos e ventre.
